At the AHR Expo in Chicago, ZAMBA showcased the Environmental Wall System (EWS) Model N, a decentralized HVAC solution designed to fit within a compact 8-inch (200mm) wall depth. The unit is a response to the logistical challenges of high-rise construction, integrating heating, cooling, and a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) into a single, ductless package.
By moving the mechanical components to the perimeter wall, the Model N allows architects to eliminate traditional drop ceilings and bulky ductwork. This design choice can reduce the necessary height between floors by nearly a foot, offering a practical way to lower construction material costs or increase the number of floors in a building.
Key Features:
Integrated Energy Recovery: Features an HRV/ERV with over 85% thermal efficiency.
Acoustics: Designed for residential comfort with operating levels below 35 dBA.
Simplified Trades: The "plug-and-play" hydronic setup reduces the coordination typically required between HVAC, electrical, and plumbing teams.
Air Quality: Includes built-in sensors for real-time pressure and filtration monitoring.
The Model N represents a shift toward "mechanical-as-a-service" design, where high-efficiency climate control is treated as a modular architectural element rather than a centralized utility.
